Hyndburn residents asked to give views on proposed GP practice branch closures
Date posted: 1st May 2026ARG Healthcare in Blackburn Road, Accrington, has two branch sites, one in Great Harwood Health Centre and one at 32 High Street, Rishton.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the GP partners from Pendle View Medical Centre have temporarily taken over the provision of general practice services at ARG Healthcare.
As part of this change, the branch sites have been temporarily closed to allow for the period of transition.
Now, due to the historical low levels of use and the availability of other general practices in both towns, NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) is engaging with the public on proposals to make the closures permanent.
Craig Harris, chief commissioning officer for the ICB, said: “We would like to hear from as many people as possible so they can tell us how such closures would affect them in the future.
“Members of our team will be happy to speak to you at two dedicated drop-in events in May, or you can fill in the survey to give us your feedback.”
All registered patients will continue to have access to all general medical services provided by ARG Healthcare at its main site in Blackburn Road, Accrington.
However, for those looking for GP practices in Great Harwood and Rishton, all local practices are accepting new patients. The nearest practices are:
- Great Harwood Medical Group, Great Harwood Health Centre
- The Weaver’s Practice, Great Harwood Health Centre
- The Weaver’s Practice, High Street, Rishton (100 yards from ARG Rishton branch site)
Drop-in sessions have been arranged for people to discuss the proposals and make any comments.
These will take place at Great Harwood Health Centre on Friday 8 May 2026, from 1pm to 2.30pm, and Tuesday 12 May 2026, from 11am to 12.30pm.
A survey has also been set up for people to give their views. This can be found at https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/arg-branches/
