Teams and individuals from across the NHS in Lancashire and South Cumbria have been recognised for their hard work by being shortlisted for a top industry award.

The prestigious Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards winners will be announced later this year, recognising the achievements of leading doctors, innovative programmes, and teams delivering outstanding services across the healthcare system.

Among the nominations in our region are Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board’s (ICB) Orange Button suicide prevention programme (shortlisted for Mental Health Innovation of the Year) and its General Practice Improvement Week initiative (Primary and Community Care Innovation of the Year) to identify improvements that can be made across primary care.

Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust’s development and delivery of the Initial Response Services (Driving Efficiency Through Technology) is another region-wide initiative to make the shortlist.

There are three nominations for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, with the Hospital Based Health Independent Domestic Violence Advisors and Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (Provider Collaboration of the Year), the Reducing pressure ulcers through proactive working initiative (Patient Safety Award), and the Preventing Hospital Acquired Pneumonia: Introducing the COUGH care bundle (Patient Safety Award) receiving nominations.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals’ Lung Vision System (Modernising Diagnostics Award) – which is accelerating lung cancer diagnosis and care – and consultant respiratory physician and interventional pulmonologist Dr Mohammed Munavvar (Clinical Leader of the Year) have both been shortlisted, and East Lancashire Hospitals Trust’s armed forces veteran and reservist partnership working (Military and Civilian Health Partnership Award) completes the list of local nominees.

Kevin Lavery, chief executive for Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB, said: “It is great to see a wide array of initiatives from across our region among the nominees for the most prestigious awards events in our industry.

“The awards are a great opportunity to recognise the individuals, teams and programmes that have gone above and beyond to improve the experiences of our patients and communities, and I am pleased that through the awards we are able to celebrate the effort, innovative thinking and collaborative working that is shaping the future of healthcare in our region.”

The shortlist is made up of 223 names, whittled down from 1,456 entries – a record in the award’s 43-year history – by a judging panel full of well-known healthcare names.

The winners will be announced at the annual HSJ Awards ceremony and dinner on 16 November at London’s Evolution.
