The Lancashire and South Cumbria Critical Care Specialised Services Clinical Network (LSCCCN) pharmacy team were announced as finalists in the ‘Excellence in Hospital Pharmacy Practice’ category at the Clinical Pharmacy Congress Awards 2026.
The awards recognise outstanding work across clinical pharmacy, reflecting the impact being made across hospital, primary care and wider healthcare settings. It was noted there was a high number of strong nominations this year, so being announced as finalists is a fantastic achievement.
The team comprises a group of passionate pharmacists, working collaboratively to improve outcomes for patients across the region. They have been recognised for their work which includes:
- Regional standardisation of high-risk intravenous medicines preparation and administration practice by the development of ‘Critical Care Drug Monographs’ to reduce medication errors.
- Standardise prescribing and administration of antimicrobials through the development of unified clinical guidelines.
- Educating our pharmacy critical care workforce with ‘learning at lunch sessions’ and developing a ‘delirium podcast’ with a former critical care patient to highlight this important clinical syndrome.
The pharmacists in the team are Shaun Morgan (ELHT and LSCCCN lead pharmacist), Sura Ali (LTHTR), Andrew Duncan (BTH), Jenny Oakley and Matthew Forrester (UHMB), working alongside their clinical colleagues in different specialities to drive positive change across our region’s adult critical care units.
Shaun Morgan said: “We are proud that the Clinical Pharmacy Congress has recognised our work to improve patient care in Lancashire and South Cumbria. I am sure Sura, Andrew, Jenny and Matthew will agree with me that so many of our multidisciplinary colleagues have shared and bought into our vision, working with us to promote safe and personalised dosing for critically ill patients.”
Helen O'Neill, director for Lancashire and South Cumbria Critical Care and Major Trauma Specialised Services Clinical Network, added: “The pharmacy team has done outstanding work to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines across our network. It’s especially rewarding to see their efforts recognised by the Clinical Pharmacy Congress, a true testament to their hard work and dedication."
